Week 1:

In Newsies, the song “Seize the Day” isn’t just about rebellion or excitement—it’s a turning point. The newsboys realize that waiting around and hoping things will change isn’t enough. If they want justice, freedom, and a future, they have to act now. Not tomorrow. Not “when it’s easier.” Today.
That idea lines up powerfully with Scripture. Ephesians 5:16 tells us: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” Paul isn’t telling us to live recklessly or impulsively. He’s calling us to live intentionally. To recognize that time is a gift, and once it’s gone, we don’t get it back. The Cost of Waiting In Newsies, the boys are being taken advantage of. At first, they grumble, complain, and accept it. But nothing changes until they decide their time, voices, and actions matter. Waiting cost them freedom. Spiritually, waiting can cost us too. How many times do we say:
Seizing the Day God’s Way Seizing the day for the Lord doesn’t mean being famous, loud, or perfect. It means choosing obedience right now. It looks like:
Your Moment Matters God has placed you where you are on purpose—in your school, your family, your theater, your friendships. This isn’t rehearsal. This is the performance. Ephesians reminds us that the days are evil—not to scare us, but to wake us up. Light matters more when it’s dark. And your faith matters now, not someday. So the question isn’t just, “Will you seize the day?” “Who are you seizing it for?” When you seize the day for the Lord, your life becomes more than a moment—it becomes a message. |
