What is the MAP Program? The HLA Performing Arts Mentoring Arts Program encourages students to rise to the leadership role and help mentor fellow actors in the theatre program. Mentors will work side by side with their peers, encouraging and developing their strengths and educate them in the opportunities that are available in the performing arts. These mentorship experiences include working directly with the Director and Music Director in multiple areas of the production process, including music, costuming, set design, prop mastering, choreography, etc.
Why Peer Mentorship? Scripture states, "Iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another". (Proverbs 27:17) Christian Mentoring, at its core, allows Christians to "sharpen" each other in not only their journey to learn life skills, but mostly in their journey in Christ! Mentorship shows others that there is someone who cares about them, by seeing Christ's love through the mentor's nurturing actions. Mentoring gives students the sense of importance and connection to the body of Christ. Quality mentoring relationships can help a student realize their full potential, assures and guides them while they accomplish set goals while allowing them to see the positive results through the theatrical production experience of teamwork and a job well done. Mentoring is not just about sharpening the peer, but sharpening the mentor as well!
